Native American Culture/Algonquian people

Hello Dr. O'Brien.

Can you tell me, to what extent, if any, are the Algonquian people extant, as such, today. Do they, for instance, congregate in any manner or have they effectively vanished?

Dear Dan

Thank you for your question.  No, Algonquian people (which includes many different tribes) have not vanished.  They have changed dramatically over the centuries.   In my own region of southern New England, there are descendants of the Wampanoag, Narragansett, Pequot, Mohegan, inter alia.   You could Google those names for Wikipedia articles, which for the most part, provide useful information.

Many references, both online and others, are given there.

Hope this is of some use to serve your question.
