Answer
Hello Laura, I'm no expert at this but have trimmed the sharp points off Spanish bayonet and Spanish dagger plants, which are the 2 yucca plants I'm most familiar with, and had no detrimental effects. I have seen several with leaves trimmed to the trunk and a crown of Spanish bayonets at the top. If you need to shorten the plant I'm fairly sure you can cut the trunk off at the height desired and paint the wound with pruning paint, but double check with your local nursery to be sure. I hope this helps. Have a nice day, George
