Back and Neck Injury - back pain

Expert: Dr. Peter Carr - 9/22/2009

Question
Hi, I am suffering from severe pain in centre of right lower back, if I bend my chin towards my chest this intensifies and feel like a pull. My GP sent me for an MRI and the results of this was general wear and tear from normal amount of degeneration for my age (44). Physio has been suggested but I'm unhappy with the diagnosis as this problem is affecting eveyday life and I seem to be in pain all of the time.

Answer
Judy;

What exactly is normal wear and tear read:lame.  They sent you for an MRI because they suspected a disc was herniated.  If you are in pain all of the time, have you tried chiropractic care?   I don't want to toot my profession's horn here, but you sound like a classic case that comes through my office all of the time.

Physio work typically includes stretching and strengthening exercises, which may or may not help you... I think you are on to something by not going with a lame diagnosis.  Go see someone else, see what they think.   Without having seen the films or the report, I can't tell you what's going on, but have someone look at you.  When it comes to your health, too many cooks don't spoil the soup!

I just finished a new article about the cervical disc on my website, should you be interested.
Go to the articles section, and it should be the last condition-based page.
