Needlepoint - erblocking a needlepoint rug

Expert: Henry Babcock - 1/31/2008

Question
hi henry...i have a 10 year old needlepoint rug here in virginia beach that needs reblocking and cleaning.  it is a 3' by 5' rug.  the local needlepoint shop suggest i send it to atlanta but would cost me several hundred dollars...i would like to do it myself.  my question to you is, how...thanks for you answer....gwen

Answer
Gwen,

Cleaning and reblocking a needlepoint of that size is a huge undertaking.

I highly recommend professionals do the work.  Do an online search for "needlepoint rug cleaning".  You will find several services that can provide you with quality results at a better price than you were quoted.

If you really desire to undertake cleaning and re-blocking the rug yourself, here's a great source for instructions on cleaning and re-blocking needlepoint; I've been referring people to these instructions, as they are some of the best I have seen:

Hope this helps,
