Needlepoint - What kind of design is this?

Expert: Vinette de Phillipe - 10/18/2008

Question
My mum has been doing, what she calls "petit point", in French (she thinks it's half cross-stitch, in English) for years but she can no longer find the type of design she's used to.  It's a very specific style that I grew up with as it was hugely popular with everyone in Egypt (where my mum is from).  But the store they used to buy their canvases from in Cairo closed.
So I started doing a search on the internet but am having a great deal of dificulty because I have no idea what this style might be.  It's always flowers and leaves (no animlas - birds etc - that I've ever seen) but whenever I click on the "flower" category on web sites, they're night and day compared to what I'm looking for.
I have attached an image and would greatly appreciate if you might be able to tell me what I need to be looking for and/or where to find it.
In case you can't tell from the photo, the beige areas are plain canvas with no stitching.
Thank you so much.

Answer
HI Magda,
Petit point is method of stitching, a small stitch.

I found this site with floral designs,

http://www.bfdesigns.on.ca/FLORALSANDFRUIT.htm

http://www.needleartmania.com/?search[terms]=floral&search[mode]=any&x=40&y=6

I did a search for petitpoint designs to find these.

I believe that this type of design is in the category of tapestry.

I hope this is of some help.
