AboutHenry Babcock Expertise I learned needlepoint from my grandmother over 30 years ago. I can answer most questions on the subject. I know about producing needlepoint as well as cleaning, repairing and restoring.
Question The brick cover kit I have recently finished has no further instructions for sewing it together. I am eager to complete the project myself instead of paying someone else. Any advice and/or instructions would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance.
Answer Amy,
I apologize for the delay in responding.
I've been looking for some specific instructions on finishing a brick door stop that I photocopied out of a library book. We recently moved and they are still in a box somewhere.
Basically, you want to cut the canvas to leave a half inch of blank canvas around the design. Then you fold the design around the brick tucking the blank edges under the finished part of the canvas. You should use a whip stitch to stitch the edges together. The instructions I have (somewhere in the void), use a thick piece of leather glued to the bottom to cover the edges that wrap around the bottom.
If I can find the instructions I have in the near future, I will scan them and upload them, then I will add a follow up to this question with a link to the instructions.
I did look around online a bit, and I found a book that has instructions on finishing a brick doorstop: "Sandy's Finishing Touches: A Step-By-Step Guide To Finishing Needlepoint" by Sandy Higgins. You should be able to get an inter-library loan for this book from your local library.
