Needlepoint/torn canvas

Question
my dog ripped about a three inch area of my canvas. I have already needlepoint
up to that area. So the row under it has already been worked. Is there anything I
can do to save it?

Answer
Alison,

You can carefully unstitch the threads about an inch back all around the damaged area.  Then tuck the loose thread under some of the finished work.  Get some canvas of the same gauge, and baste a "patch" of it on the backside behind the damaged area, making sure to line up the canvas threads.  Make your basting stitches, with sewing thread that matches the canvas color, about a half inch out all around the damaged area.  Then you can just restitch the area, stitching through both layers of canvas and over the basting stitches.

Hope this helps,
