AboutHenry Babcock Expertise I learned needlepoint from my grandmother over 30 years ago. I can answer most questions on the subject. I know about producing needlepoint as well as cleaning, repairing and restoring.
Question I completed a large stocking last year. I am a beginner and was not informed on how to store my work between the holidays until yesterday. I had put it back in the plastic wrap that it was placed in from the finishers. It was stored upstairs laying flat in a box of Christmas decorations (in a closet). When I pulled it out tonight, half of the snow on the ground and the snow on the rooftop has turned a rustic pink color. The fiber is Frosty Rays. Is there any way to have the color restored back to white? I'm not sure how it absorbed the color when it was laying flat on top of everything inside plastic wrap.
Answer Rachel,
I'm sorry to hear about your stocking. Since the piece has already been finished, I don't think you will be able to correct the problem. After such a long time in storage, the dye that has discolored the white may be set. If this had happened before the piece was finished, your best bet would have been to remove the pink-stained threads and restitch with white.
