Needlepoint - Insert needlepoint into front of pillow

Expert: Vinette de Phillipe - 4/6/2009

Question
I have completed a needlework project and would like to turn it into a pillow with the needlework in the center of the pillow and approximately 4 inches of fabric surrounding the needlepoint insert.   Can you tell me how to do pthis? Many thanks, C. Delis

Answer
HI Chris
This is fairly easy.

1. measure the needlepoint.

2. find the fabric you like for the border.

3. since you want a 4 inch border, cut the fabric into 5 inch strips.

4. sew strips to 2 opposite sides, then the other remaining sides.

now the needlepoint is inserted into the pillow top.

to make the back,

cut 2 pieces of fabric the same width as the pillow top.

make the length about 2/3's of the size of the pillow.

Hem one end of each fabric.

place one piece of the fabric, right side to the right side of the top. lining it up on three sides.  do the same with the other piece, except from the other end., they will over lap in the center.

stitch around all edges.

turn right side out, insert pillow form into the case you just made.
