AboutHenry Babcock Expertise I learned needlepoint from my grandmother over 30 years ago. I can answer most questions on the subject. I know about producing needlepoint as well as cleaning, repairing and restoring.
Question Hi Mr. Babcock---
I made a needlepoint belt for my son (6th grade at the time) and he his now entering high school. Needless to say, after 3 years of continuous school wear, it has become quite soiled. I used wool and it is finished with smooth leather and suede. I'm really only interested in cleaning the woolen part. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time!

Answer Kim,
I apologize for the delay.
Cleaning a needlepoint that includes leather in it's finishing really limits your choice to getting the belt dry cleaned.
Some tips on locating a good dry cleaner for your needlepoint:
Find a plant where cleaning is done on the premises.
Make sure they are familiar with dry cleaning leather goods.
Ask cleaners of oriental rugs.
Ask antique rug dealers for recommendations.
Try to ask to have your item cleaned first after a change of the cleaning fluid.
