Question My 3 year old daughter wiped make-up (Lip Gloss i think) onto the needlepoint seat of my mother's antique chair...she couldn't find a tissue! HELP! Do you know how i can remove it? should I bring it to a restorer, or is there something I can use myself? Thanks, Stacey
Answer Stacey,
I've been trying to do some research on what make-up is made of. I haven't come across anything definitive. To advise you on the proper direction to take, I'd have to know the nature of the soil as well as the materials used in the piece of needlework.
If it is an antique piece of needlework, you will certainly want to consult with a professional as to the proper course of action. Try doing a search online for "needlepoint cleaning" or "needlepoint rug cleaning". If the piece is mounted to a chair, you will likely want to contact an upholsterer about removing the piece for cleaning and replacing it afterwards. The upholsterer may be able to recommend someone for cleaning and/or restoration.
