Question
I needlepointed an Irish Blessing that is about 30 years old, wool, and it was in the home of two smokers most of that time.  The background white stitches have yellowed drastically.  Can you tell me the safest way to clean it?  Thanks for your help!

Answer
Margie,

Sorry to hear about the smoke stains on your needlepoint.  Tobacco smoke is very pernicious.

Recently, I found a great source for instructions on cleaning and re-blocking needlepoint.  I've been referring people to the instructions, as they are some of the best I have seen:

I've spoken with Ms. Drake in the past, and she is wonderful woman with 30 years experience in cleaning and repairing needle work.

I hope this helps,
