Needlepoint - puting square together

Expert: Vinette de Phillipe - 8/15/2001

Question
Dear Vinette,

Could you please advise on the best (relatively)easy stitches that can be used to sew squares  together. I am making a quilt-inspired blanket out of wool squares, and I want the stitches to show and to be practical (hold the pieces together)and also decorative. I will do this by hand, of course!

Thank you.
Ellen

Thank you!!

Answer
hi ellen,
sounds like you are making something similar to a crazy quilt. for strength and durability, i would suggest sewing the squares together by machine and then put the decorative stitches over the seams.

here are some sites with the different stitches and other info on crazy quilts that you might find to be helpful.
