Question I just had this scam pulled on me this morning.I contacted the police here in Palm Springs,CA but all the can do is file an incident report since I figured it was a scam.Who are the proper authorities to report them to in CA.They really need to be stopped!
Answer I agree with you,. This is a huge scam and no one seems to be doing much about them. I get complaints about them routinely.
You may file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and the FBI. Call your local FBI and ask them how to file a complaint or go to www.ic3.gov. This is the Internet Crime complaint center. I believe the common thread with all victims of this fraud is they all seem to have taken out an online payday loan and the lender has sold your information to these scammers. You would think it would be easy enough for law enforcement to track them down but so far they continue to operate on a large scale.
You may also want to contact your state attorney general and file a complaint.
Do not be intimidated by them. Tell them to pound salt and to do what they need to do and you will do what you need to do to shut them down. Everyone needs to make a lot of noise with law enforcement and get them to do their jobs. Keep me posted on your progress so I can report it to my readers.
