Question Hello, I had a judgment and lien filed against me in 2004. I had paid the amount down from 6k to 2k, but was late adn the creditor would not accept my payments so I stopped. Now there is a new law firm contacting me asking for 4,800. I have since married and my married name is on a property in another state. Can the new law firm attach a lien to my husband's house even if I am not on the mortgage. Does it matter if the name is incorrect or if I have not officially changed my name? I'm concerned that they will impact his credit.
Answer Hello Sharon,
Thank you for you question!
While your answer is generally NO, companies and law firms are doing anything to collect. I wouldn't put it past them.
