Question QUESTION: I just recieved a phone call from a law firm about a hospital bill from back in 2007. I never got any of these bills and I had insurance at the time but the law firm said that its my own fault in the state of Colorado. Should I go to court and try to fight it or should I try to pay these unfair bills?
ANSWER: Tiamo,
Thank you for your question.
Start by requesting a detailed list of the services performed / items used. Contact your ins company and request information on what they paid. Chances are the hospital didn't bill the ins company, or you deductible wasn't paid.
By performing a little leg work, you will discover what happened and may take action after you have all the facts.
Good Luck

QUESTION: They just faxed me a detailed summary and it shows that the insurance company was not billed. The law firm said that in Colorado though if the hospital doesnt submit the bills to insurance then it is my own problem that I didnt follow up even though I never knew I had these bills. So now since it is past the date to submit to my insurance should I fight these bills in court?
ANSWER: I don't believe that statement to be true. The debt collector just wants you to pay this debt off. Contact the insurance company before you do anything. They may pay the claim is it's submitted. Let me know how it worked out for you.

QUESTION: I have spoken with my college health insurance at the time and they have said that they cannot pay it because it is over a year and a half old and that is past their timeline that they have in the policy to pay. So should I just go to court and try to fight the collections since its the hospitals fault and not mine?
Answer Please contact the College’s Insurance Coordinator, Lori Linzmaier at (719) 389-6386, or by e-mail at lori.linzmaier@ColoradoCollege.edu. She will assist you with this situation.
Since you received services ultimately you're responsible for paying this debt. You did sign a document the hospital gave called Conditions of Admissions.
