Question Hi Gordon,
I will be in Nepal, based out of Kathmandu, for all of this coming March. I am getting ready to purchase tickets for the flight over there and I am wondering if you have any advice on the best rates. I am traveling alone and can handle anything insofar as inconvenient travel is concerned (layovers, etc.). Also, what would you consider to be the best guide for Kathmandu and the surrounding area? I will be assisting a research trip in the mountains for about 4 weeks and then I will have another two weeks (at least) to explore Kathmandu on my own. Thank you! Stanley
Answer This is more of an airline question but I would pursue your local student travel agency or a travel consilidator. Most travel agents are also happy to purchase a discounted ticket. Look in the back of your local weekly entertainment newspaper. Most of the hiking mountains are a flight or long drive from KTM, so a guide book would be fine for exploring KTM and nearby areas of Patan and Bhaktapur. You can also hire a guide and any travel agency n KTM, but it's very easy to self guide with a book.
