Question
hello, for a few months now my urine has been bubbly but not as foamy as this http://farm1.static.flickr.com/157/346622539_c8636bc45a_m.jpg
, and the bubbles can last for a couple of hours. but i have had a blood test and a 24hr urine test and my results came back perfectly fine. i was just wondering what else can cause urine to foam, other then protein and creatinine? i have also been taking nitric oxide supplements, and protein supplements, but even after i stopped taking them for around 2 weeks my urine still foamed

Answer
Dear Joseph,

Foamy urine can be due to protein in the urine but it usually has no definable cause.  It may be due to the velocity of urine flow but no one really knows for sure.  In any event it is NOT associated with any nephropathlogy, proteinuria notwithstanding.

Thanks for the question.

Sincerely,
