Subject: HYPODENSE KIDNEY STRUCTURE
Question Greetings! I am a 53 year-old male. CT scan w/contrast on 5/5/08 revealed a 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm "hypodense structure" (1.8 Hounsfield Units) in midpole of left kidney. Same mass was 2.2 cm in diameter back on 10/16/03 (diagnosed as a simple cyst). Should I be concerned about the rapid growth in 4 1/2 years as well as the change from clear to hypodense? Blood tests have been performed and I can provide specific results if you need them. Thank you so much! Steve
Answer Hi Stephen,
Thanks for your question on "Allexperts".
Yes, you should be concerned about the rapid growth in size. I would like to have more information on the thickness and margins (round or irregular) of the cyst.
Also, it would help to know your blood pressure, BUN, S. Creatinine and urinalysis results.
Sincerely,
Dr. Shah
