Question I started hemodialysis January 2008. Since then I have had thinning and falling out hair, along with clogged hair folicules. Can it be caused by Heparin or blood pressure medications? I have seen a dermatologist and am awaiting results of a biopsy from my scalp. What treatment would you prescribe and will my hair grow back??

People who start dialysis do sometimes notice hair loss. Usually, it is temporary, and the hair will begin to grow again in a few months.
Hair loss can also be caused by a malnourished state (low serum albumin), zinc deficiency, thyroid disorders and some drug reactions. Sometimes, patients experience hair loss when the unit changes the dialyzer.
Please let me know your scalp biopsy results and we will take it from there.
