Subject: how to ask about income in surveys

Question
Hello,
I work for a global market research company (www.ipsos.com) and I'd like to know if people in Netherlands are more likely to think about their income as:
- monthly income or annual income
- net income (after tax) or gross income (before tax)

thank you

Answer
Hello Loredana,
People usually talk about a monthly income, however sometimes a annual income is mentioned. Most of the insurances and companies and the like are being paid every month, so a monthly income is easier to calculate with.
The income before tax is called netto and after bruto. Most of the time it is the bruto income is the one people talk about. In job-advertisements often the netto income is mentioned, but then it has to be specified in the ad, that it is the netto income.
So most Dutch people would think about their income as a monthly bruto (after taxes) income.
I hope this is what you wanted to know, if you need to know more, you can just contact me.
Kind regards,
Anneke Oosterink
