Neurology (general) - Facial numbness

Expert: Vicharn Lipisuwanchote - 11/12/2006

Question
Everyday at various times  I have a numbness around my mouth and left jaw area.   It even feels as though my teeth and lips are envolved.   When I chew gum,  it goes away.   None of my Drs know what this is.

Answer
your symptoms maybe explained by isolated trigeminal nerve palsy.intermittent course tells that maybe it a vascular compression.but this shouldn't happen to this nerve since it's a big berve.
it's not a serious condition, so if it doesn't annoy you to much, no need more evaluation.if so, ask for brain imaging.surgery might resolve this.
