About Vicharn Lipisuwanchote Expertise I am a medical student. I am interested in neurosurgery, so any questions related to neurosurgery are welcome. I will look it up for you if I do not know the answer.
My sister had an MRI done and a few things came up. We were hoping that you might be able to explain a few things while we are waiting for her doctor appointment.
Generally, the main points are:
1. There are several small nonspecific foci T2 prolongation in the supratentorial white mater. The majority if the abnormal foci are in the subcortical, anthough a few deep white matter periventricular lesions are noted.
2. These may indicate the sequelae of small vessel ischemic disease.
3. Other processes wuch as demyelinating disease can not be excluded.
4. There is a very focal lateral bowing of the margin of the body of the lateral ventricle in the same locations suggesting an ex vacuo phenomenon.
5. Low-lying cerebellar tonsils meeting criteria for a Chiari 1 malformation.
My sister is only 33. Any information that you can give us, either to relax or to prepare is greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Have a nice day,
Ricki
Answer the lesions in the brain need more evaluation about what is the disease.the brain which involved will hardly ever recover.so if new symptoms occur, need urgent evaluation to find cause.what is her symptoms?
ex vacuo phenomenon is resulted from brain atrophy, maybe a traumatic, ischemic, or neurodegenerative disease.
chiari 1 malformation is a congenital dz, which frequently cause headache, but not serious, no treatment if no symptom.beware of spinal cord dz(syringomyelia)which may cause weakness, suspended sensory loss( pain&temperature sensory loss), if so severe , can cause leg weakness.these alarm you for operation.
