Expert: Vicharn Lipisuwanchote - 11/8/2006

Question
Hi.I originally twisted my neck badly almost 4 months ago.It got so bad that It made me go to hospital one night for pain.I was diagnosed with pinched nerve and neuralgia .It has been 7 weeks since hospital,is getting betterbut how long can this last?.My doc said maybe 10 weeks since it got soo bad.I am doing PT also.

Answer
it's good that's going eased.
actually, no one can tell the duration but it usually stands no longer than 3 months depend on severity.
addition to PT, you should observe your self about ergonomic position like :decrease shearing position, give your neck upright when working, use a pillow that's appropriate size and elastic ,will help it recover more soon, and prevent persistent irritating the nerve.
by this time, you can use analgesics to relief pain.especially NSAIDs that can shorten the course of disease.
