Question Hi Valerie -- we are considering a move to the area. Have visited many times and have friends in many different parts of NM, but somehow always come back to these areas. Can you give us any tips/advice on moving to and living in these small communities?
Answer Hi Annette,
The little towns have a lot of appeal, don't they? Those areas offer beautiful views and a historic background. We like that part of the state. If you're considering moving there, I'd recommend you spend a minimum of two weeks in one place to really see what it's like to settle in and go through the normal daily routine of life. It's best to discover how far you'll have to go for groceries, whether you can find the things you need or what kind of distance you'd have to go to obtain them, if you find the town too small after a while...these are the things that people usually complain about after a while. We lived in Corrales for nine years and while the village had all of our basic necessities including some very good restaurants, there were many things we'd have to go into Albuquerque for. Luckily, it was close enough to not be an ordeal, but if you having to drive about an hour to Santa Fe or Taos you may end up feeling differently.
The upside is that the views are ever changing and never tiring, the people are genrally welcoming and you can have a plot of land to cultivate. Small town festivals are usually the best, too! :)
I hope this helps! Let us know if you decide to make the move. I always like to hear what people end up deciding in the end.
Take care and all the best,
Valerie
