Question
QUESTION: Hello, am planing to travel to New Mexico plus Arizona and Colorado and was wondering what the weather is usually like over there that time of year.

Many thanks!

ANSWER: Hi Lucy,
What time of year are you planning to go?  Also, there is a significant difference between southern and northern New Mexico, i.e. Sonoran Desert vs. Rocky Mountain climate. Do you know where in New Mexico you will be traveling?  Let me know the answers to these questions and I will be glad to advise you.
Thanks,
Steve

QUESTION: Hi Steve

sorry, that would help wouldn't it!  Am either giong to g this Sepember  or Otcober (health permitting) otherwise next May...obviously that's a long way off to predict though.  Will be visiting Santa Fe and Albuqueque then driving to Lincolna nd Fot Sumner (following the Billy The Kid trail)  I'll also be visiting other states and going to the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and Durango.

Thanks!

Lucy

Answer
Santa Fe is cradled at the base of 12,000 foot mountains at an altitude of 7,000 feet. We have four very distinct but temperate seasons, get an average of 14 inches of rain a year which is heaviest in July and August and enjoy 300 days of sunshine a year and an average relative humidity of less than 50 percent. The average high temperature for September is 74 and the low is 49 and the average high in October is 63 with a low of 38.  If you will be traveling in late October you may encounter snow, although it is not likely that early in the year.  Albuquerque and the points further south will be a little warmer - about 5-10 degrees.  In May the average high in Santa Fe is 69 and the low is 43.  The climate in New Mexico is very dry.  You don't mention where you are from but a lot of visitors experience very dry skin.  Be sure to have some skin moisturizer handy.
I don't know about the other states - check with those state experts.
Have fun and enjoy your stay in the Land of Enchantment!!
Steve
