Experience basically, i've spent a LOT of time in new orleans, both on business and as a tourist. i can honestly say it's my favorite town in the entire world.
i also have a lot of friends in the area, so if i don't know something, i can get the info pretty quick.

Question Hi, Curt!
I'm having trouble finding info I need, and am hoping you'll be able to help.
Eight of us will be in New Orleans on Christmas Day, and I'm trying to find a place for us to have a holiday dinner, preferably in the late afternoon or early evening. There are real traditionalists in the group, so I'm hoping for a turkey-and-fixings menu. The place doesn't have to be terribly gourmet-- but I'd like a nice atmosphere and good food.
Is this a possibility, do you think? I'll appreciate any advice you can offer!
In advance, thanks.

Answer i haven't actually had a traditional turkey-and-fixin's meal in new orleans, but my best guess would be to give a call to any of the well-known restaurants in town, and ask them about their planned menus. the better restaurants should be adding some of the traditional stuff to the menu during the holidays. for 8, you'll need a reservation [i'd book it about a month beforehand].
depending on where you want to be, i'd suggest the following [all are really excellent, and would be most likely to have traditional food]:
in the french quarter:
k-pauls [nice, not too stuffy, probably my favorite]
nola [emeril's place]
mr. b's
uptown:
jacques-imo's [relaxed and,fun]
clancy's [might be a bit more traditional/formal]
commander's palace [the hands-down grandaddy of them all - though more formal]
