AboutTina M Kinney Expertise I can answer questions about NYC neighborhoods, where and what to eat, how to get around on the subway, how to get to and from NYC, what to do, where to shop etc. I can not give recommendations on hotels, however, since I only stayed at a few myself. When I go to NYC, I stay with family! I am honest and if I don't know the answer I will tell you. Often you have to do your own research on the internet and that will give you an answer. I will point you to useful websites but you have to do your own research, I can't do it for you!
Experience I am a native New Yorker. I was born and grew up in Manhattan on the Upper West Side. I love showing NYC to newcomers and understand how the city works. I also understand that a city like NY can be very overwhelming to a newcomer. I am here to make your visit to Manhattan fun and exciting!
Education/Credentials I have a BA from Binghamton University, NY and a Masters in Public Administration from SUNY Albany.

Question I recently read on a NYC visitors website that wearing faded jeans, white t-shirt and white tennis shoes was a dead giveaway that your a tourist. It didn't say what one should wear to "blend in". Can you advise?
Answer I think New Yorkers wear everything nowadays so I wouldn't worry. It'd probably be your behavior that tips people off that you are a tourist: ie standing in the middle of the sidewalk gawking at the skyscrapers :)
Even that's not so bad. Everyone is a tourist sometime right? I think sneakers are the most comfortable footwear and you will definitely need that because of the walking you will do!
The only time what you wear is an issue is upscale restaurants that require a jacket or dance clubs that have a dress code.
