I travel to Manhattan frequently and can offer a unique perspective because I am a tourist.I have so much curiosity about Manhattan and that has led me to gather lots of great information about the city. I consider myself a hotel buff of sorts, and touring them and analyzing their attributes has become a hobby for me. I can give some good advice on restaurants, shopping, and in general just how to maximize those "new york moments" we all want to experience. Whether it is something as small as how to hail a cab, where to enjoy a cocktail and a romantic stroll, or how to dress so you don`t stand out as a tourist, go ahead and ask.

Subject: Sports in December

Question
Hi
We are visiting New York from Australia over Christmas and New years 2008. We want to see a sporting event such as basketball game or icehockey (at Madison Sq Gds) and possible the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and would like to know if December is the season for those sports and how to obtain tickets and info etc…

Also we would like to see a Broadway show, is it best to book over the Internet or just buy at the ticket box on the day we want to see a show?
Thanks

Answer
I think it will be the time for basketball, but I don't know any details. I would buy a copy of Frommers NYC 2008 and it will go over sporting events....( you can get one at www.amazon.com). Sorry, but this is one thing I don't do too much.

For Broadway shows you can go either way....search for Broadway shows on the internet and you will find all kinds of info. Then you can buy a ticket ahead of time. Or, you can wait and goto the box office. Frommers is great about expaining how to go about getting tickets.
Also, grab a copy to the nytimes newspaper on Sunday close to your trip and you will get some great ideas about shows.

Good luck, Jen
