AboutJennifer Expertise I travel to Manhattan frequently and can offer a unique perspective because I am a tourist.I have so much curiosity about Manhattan and that has led me to gather lots of great information about the city. I consider myself a hotel buff of sorts, and touring them and analyzing their attributes has become a hobby for me. I can give some good advice on restaurants, shopping, and in general just how to maximize those "new york moments" we all want to experience. Whether it is something as small as how to hail a cab, where to enjoy a cocktail and a romantic stroll, or how to dress so you don`t stand out as a tourist, go ahead and ask.

Question Hi Jennifer,
Me and my partner will be visiting New York in December for a month from Melbourne, Australia. We're looking at renting a furnished studio (with kitchenette) or 1 bedroom apartment in Upper West or Upper East side. Also, there is this Lara Group Net real estate agent which offers a pretty good deal.
How do we know if they are legit (as we are required to pay deposit and we won't be able to inspect the apartment prior to arrival)?
Otherwise, where else can we find the listings of furnished apartment?
While you're at it, could you also advise the restaurants, cafes, delis that are New York's must try? Recommendations on NY's must do or must shop are most welcome.
Thank you very much!! :)
Answer The Lara Groups website looks totally legit to me, I would not worry. But, be sure you know exactly where the apartment will be ( get your map out)....and try to see a picture of get specifics ....like hardwoods or carpet...colors...windows...you know...make them really describe it. I really love and recommend the upper east side...upper west is nice too....but there is something a little more special in upper east. I like being close to Central Park verses closer to either river. When you get to the outer edges of Manhattan it can seem a little lonely...less close to the heartbeat of the city. It becomes a little more " common" and everyday. Remember, if something dreadful happens your credit card company will be on your side and you can back out at any time and negotiate the issue with your credit card company ( at least in the U.S. that is the way it works).
Here are a few more apartments groups that were in Frommers NYC 2008 guidebook ( which I insist that you get this guide book! available at www.amazon.com)
