Question my best friend died recently and his wife gave me an official ny giants helmet #54... who is this player? i dont know what year he might have played. please help

First of all, I'm sorry to hear about your best friend.
However, it is near impossible to locate player numbers such as that, unless those players are current. And, as of now, there is no 54 on the Giants. There is no place I know to get roster numbers on the internet.
My suggestion would be...
A. To figure out the year of the helmet. If you can pinpoint the number to a year, your job is all but done.
B. To buy a program off Ebay or some cheap auction site of the team during the year in which the player played. Then you'll have it. Or, you could buy a team set of cards for the year that he played.
