Topic: Niagara Falls

Subject: CANADA - U.S.A. BORDER PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS

Question
Do I need a passport to cross over to the Canada side from the American side or will a birth certificate and photo ID be enough?

Answer
If you are a U.S. citizen, and at the present time (the rules change in 2009) and you are crossing the border by land (car, bus) then it is sufficient to present your birth certificate and government issued photo ID.

For further information on the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) see:

If you are arriving by air or sea, you already do require a passport.  Keep in mind that you technically do not need a passport to enter Canada, but you do need one to return to the U.S.A.
