Nissan Repair - replacing alternator belt

Expert: Von Sudderth - 7/30/2008

Question
I replaced the alternator and now need to replace the belt.  The AC compressor needs to be loosened and that belt taken off.  How do I loosen the AC compressor belt?

Answer
Jim,

The compressor does not move.  But, there is a idle tensioner that has to be loosened and then adjusted.  To do this, loosen the center bolt and then loosen the long bolt to get slack on the belt.  Remove the belt and replace it and then use the long bolt to tighten the belt and then lock it down by tightening the center bolt on the pulley.
