Nissan Repair - air flow control dial

Expert: Calvin Iwashita - 11/7/2009

Question
My air flow control dial is not changing positions for the air flow  it is stuck blowing the air to the floor only , and will not change to the other positions is this vacuum operated ? how do I fix this issue

Answer
Hi David -

I am assuming you are speaking of the A/C vents?

I do not know what year, make and model of your vehicle is, but most of the are run by vacuum, especially the older models. What you need to do is first check all the vacuum lines, ensuring there are no breaks or leaks. Next you will need to access the A/C door in the ductwork of the car, under dash center of the interior. Some screws will have to be removed to take the ductwork apart and get to the door. Sometimes the door gets stuck because the seal gets soft and binds the door. Coating it with oil will do the trick to free it up.

Hope this helps -
