Non-US Laws/divorced in china?

Question
I married a citizen of Tianjin, China in 2005, the marriage itself lasted no longer than a month, for the simple reason that I didn't actually want to marry him. I was scared of him but alone in China with my family in the UK. I left him as soon as I returned to the UK. It's a sad story, but I have to continue with the rest of my life. Anyway, he remained in China and I stayed in the UK. Finally last year I received a court summons, to attend a divorce hearing for June 2008. I made some enquiries and was told that I did not need to attend the hearing, since no children or property were involved. I therefore did not attend. I am now worried and concerned as to what the possible outcome may have been. I never want to see him or his family again and genuinely feared for my saftey. I would however like to return to China at some point, perhaps for work, since I do have a degree in Mandarin.

Please could you shed any light on my situation.

Regards,
Beth

Answer
Hi Beth,

Since you married in Tianjing, China, the local court have the jurisdiction over your divorce case.

I don't know how you case got along with now. Because the case concerns foreign affairs, there may be much more procedure needed before the case can be judged.

So what's your attitude, what's your concern? Do you want a divorce judgement ASAP or others?

rgds.
