Question
QUESTION: Who is responsible for a Financial Loan when somebody passes on?  Can any family members be held resposible if not on the loan, or in the Will?

ANSWER: It depends on what country you are talking about. In general, the inheritors are liable for the debts of the decedent. Depending on the applicable jursidiction, there may exist various means in order to limit the heirīs liability to the value of the estate.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: The country is Italy and there was not a Will with any assets or a estate.  Only this Loan to be paid.
Thank You

Answer
You would be liable. However, you can waive your inheritance altogether. Such declaration must be recorded by an Intalian notary or the Italian estate court. I would advise youto consult the Italian consulate general because their officers usually have the same authorities as notaries.
