Expert: Harvey Mechanic - 10/23/2009
Question I run a 501(c)3 arts organization, which applied for received 501(c)3 status in New York City. I have since moved to another location in New York State. Does my nonprofit retain its 501(c)3 status under these conditions, or must I reapply? Thank you.
Answer You maintain 501(c)(3) organization status with the IRS. You would file with the IRS form 8822.
www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8822.pdf
as to the change of address.
An officer of your organization should call the IRS
Exempt Organizations unit in Cincinnati at 1-877-829-
5500, 2,4 to request an updated exemption determination
letter. There is no charge for that.
