Nonprofit Law - Deposits from fundraising events

Expert: Harvey Mechanic - 11/4/2009

Question
I am involved with a 501 c3 booster club for athletics at our public high school.  After a recent fundraiser the booster's sponsored at the school, an administrator said we needed to deposit the funds in the school account (not our booster account) since the fundraiser was held at the school.
Is that OK to do?  Seems like the funds should go into the booster account.

Answer
Unless you have signed a contract with the school specifying something else, a booster corporation puts its funds into its own account.    If the school administrator has some reason then he or she will need to provide the citation or the URL for the reason and then I will respond to it.
