Answer Yes, Norfolk is the closest airport to Corolla, by a fairly wide margin (next closest is probably Raleigh, NC). According to my calculations, you have about 93 miles from Norfolk to Corolla. Unfortunately, though they are working on building a new bridge, you actually have to go south on Rts 168, then 158 to cross the bridge to Kitty Hawk, then back north along the beach Highway 12 to get back up to Corolla.
You should also figure that the first part of the trip should be reasonably speedy, and the final half will be much slower when you hit the beach traffic and the two-lane highways.
