AboutRoy Helge Rasmussen Expertise I live in the southern part of norway and can find my way around most of the country. I will answer questions about social life, culture, language and politics to the best of my knowledge. I am not so good at travel tips outside the south-eastern parts, although I will try to answer.
Experience I live here and have been guiding members of my family around when they visit from abroad for years.

Question I have been told my last name (HALVERSON) came from Norway, is this true I have seen nothing to confrim it...
Thank you
Amber Halverson
Answer It may come from norway. The name has probably been transform from its original scandinavian form in wich case I will detail the probable original form below:
If the name was not transcribed when your first american forefather came to america, then your ancestry is probably (not certain, only most probable) swedish or icelandic.
If the orignal name was /HALVARSEN/ or /HALVORSEN/ or /HALVERSEN/ then your ancestry is probably danish or norwegian.
If the original name was any of the above but ending with -SON, then your ancestry is probably swedish or perhaps icelandic.
But the scandinavian countries have always had a fair amount of intermingling, so these are just probabilities, not proof of anything. But I would say that you stand a good 30% chance of being of norwegian heritage.
