Question Hi there.I'm one of those stay at home characters. What am i missing anyway?Did you enjoy yourself on every trip? What are the things one has to watch out for? What kind of costs are inviolved?I usually only get dressed up for weddings and funerals.Would I have to make an exception to enjoy myself?Would the costs floor a retiree?Your thoughts on this and that would be appreciated.
Answer Hi Roger,,,, GREAT QUESTIONS from a possible 1st time cruiser !!!
What are you missing.....depends on what you look for in a vacation ! Travelling to foreign ports of call and seeing the sights, water sports or tours are wonderful issues of a cruise. The thought of being able to unpack one time and visit several ports of call while floating at sea is always appealing to me as well. great food, excellent entertainment and service by the staff (get ready to be pampered !)only add to the enjoyment of a cruise. Mingling with others (or being alone with a good book while smelling the fresh salt air) is another great aspect of cruising.
When selecting a cruiseline/ship, it is important that you are working with a travel agent that will screen your profile of what you are looking for in a cruise experience.
Age of passenger, likes and dislikes that a passenger is used to in their lifestyle are things that I look for when screening my clients. If its an older calmer crowd you are looking for, than I would suggest Holland America Lines, Princess or possibly Celebrity Cruiselines. If looking for a little more excitement, than we can think more in the lines of Royal Caribbean or possibly Carnival Cruiselines. Holland America. Princess and Celebrity are more refined with a more formal cruise experience. Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruiseline will be a tad more less formal.
As for me enjoying all my cruises. YES ! I enjoy sailing with friends, family and clients as well. Meeting great people and making new friends is what I LOVE ! Is every cruise perfect...NO.... but I dont go in expecting this. Thee will be minor glitches that can occur....but on any vacation this is always possible as well.I also love to see the lifestyle of other countries and the scenery and turquoise water of the caribbean are always breathtaking too !
Costs,,,, depends on the length of a cruise (3,4,5, 7 days or longer), inside or oceanview cabin etc... and the time of year i.e. fall being the least expensive but in hurricane season and spring/summer being the most expensive. But usually there is a cruiseline/ship for everyones budget ! On most cruises there will be 1-2 formal nights when a suit is required at dinners. Other nights will be semi casual (sports coat) to casual(nice slacks and polo shirt). But many cruiselines are now offering alternative dining..,.. for those who dont want to eat in the dining rooms and get dressed up. This is usually done in the buffet style and is very casual.
There is soooooo many good things to say about a cruise, I think the best way to polish my thoughts is to say that a cruise package (given all that you are provide) is the BEST BaNg for your $$$$ when compared to a similiar land vacation !!!
If I can further assist you... happy to do so.
