About Richard Rost
Expertise
I am happy to answer any questions from those who are overweight and want to learn how to lose weight through proper diet and exercise. I spent a year of my life studying weight loss and brought myself from 340 pounds down to a healthy 185 pounds the RIGHT way: no fad diets, pills, or crazy machines - just healthy eating and some moderate exercise. I'm happy to share my knowledge with you. I also have my own web site at RicksWeightLoss.com

Experience
My knowledge is all practical, life experience. I spent over a year reading dozens of books, online literature, magazines, and lots of other sources. I've studied nutrition, weight-lifting, bodybuilding, exercise science, and many other fitness-related fields.

Education/Credentials
I have no formal education in fitness or nutrition. But, then again, I am a computer programmer and trainer with no formal education in my field either. I'm completely self-taught in everything I do. However, I can give you plenty of tips and pointers on how to safely lose weight.

Question
Hello there. I am really desperate right now. I have been trying to lose weight since last year and I've been eating 700 calories each day and exercising , about 20 minutes of jump rope a day. I am aware that 700 is not enough and will cause my metabolic rate to drop, but if i eat more than that, I will really put on weight. That is my greatest fear. How can I lose more weight by putting on weight? I hate the way I live now, I am eating the healthiest food I can for every meal but it's not paying off. I am almost reaching my goal weight and but I stopped losing weight. What should I do? Eating more than 700 calories will make me put on weight. How do I lose more?
Thank you so much, I really need help.

Answer
700 calories is really very little food. Make sure you're getting enough HEALTHY FAT in your diet (unsaturated fats like nuts and olive oil). If you don't take in enough calories, or enough healthy fat, your body will conserve whatever fat it has on it because it thinks your starving. You can't outsmart 200,000 years of evolution.

To lose weight, you have to BURN the fat. Don't try to STARVE the fat. So increase exercise INCLUDING weight lifting.
