Nutrition & Dieting/Family Nutrition

Question
I recently changed my diet and lifestyle due to high cholesterol.  My wife and I exercise regularly at the YMCA.  We are learning a lot about nutrition.

My son is 10 ½ years old.  His diet is horrible – chips & salsa, pizza, chicken nuggets.  He’s 100 pounds and a bit “pudgy”.  Finding jeans to fit him is difficult but not impossible.  He plays tack football and gets moderate exercise.  I’m an assistant coach.

My daughter just turned 9 last week.  She’s short with a large gut.  Her diet is actually good.  She eats normal food and also gets moderate exercise.  She’s not involved in any extra ciricular activities.  I’m really worried about her due to her stomach size.  It’s really bad.  It’s almost impossible to find pants to fit her.

I would love to hire a nutritionist for my family but I don’t know where to go or how.  I live in Brandon, Mississippi, which is just outside of Jackson.  The Y has nothing.

Any suggestions?

Answer
Richard yes I can help.I can likely find you someone through my network to help with your nutrition through all those I know and work. I actually work hand and hand with Dr. Lonnie Lowery who runs the nutrition Department at Ohio State and I can set up a consult with him if you'd like and see if he knows someone in your area as well if thats needed.

As far as training. If you'd like as well we work with hundreds of people from a distance anyone from elite athletes to the elderly, over weight, etc. Id be more then happy to get you into our coaching group and we could support your children and family there.

Please mail me and we can go further from there. I am VERY busy this week setting up a charity event I am hosting for Big Brothers Big Sisters this week so I will be going on vacation form this site until next Monday.

My email is Phil@Staleytraining.com send me more info on what you are looking for any health issues I may need to know about as far as diet and training and I can use that to help me explain to you what we may be able to do as well as relay the info to Dr. Lowery. Maybe we can work out something where we can create a package and get he whole family involved, track the progress, get you all in a support group like situation etc where you get constant daily feedback and as well that helps as you then feel accountable when you have others looking in on you. I have worked with many people in this type of situation, Charles whom I work hand in hand with was the expert who transformed the Family on USA Today a few years back etc.

Talk to you soon

Experience

While pursuing both my Bachelors and Masters degrees in studio art found another passion, that of training and nutrition. A constant student, my real-world under-the-barbell and behind-the-fork approach has led to many an opportunity, experience, and change in my life as well as those I have worked. I have transformed my own body in numerous ways from an initial soft 300 plus pounds, to a 165 running enthusiast, and currently 240-260 pounds competing as a strongman and powerlifter. I am constantly picking, meeting, and reaching new goals; happy but never content, always striving to perform, learn, build, and pass on past lived experience. I have attended, competed in, and hosted various seminars, workshops, and strength events. Met, befriended, worked for, and with many of the tops in the fields of training, sports, and nutrition. I consistently and compassionately pass on my lessons learned and knowledge gained to anyone in need, or to those whom simply expresses a desire, passion to better them selves. My experience is varied, having worked both distance via the internet, and hands on. From consulting with high caliber competitors and athletes, training support on a women’s weight loss forum, to volunteering with children in high risk neighborhoods. I have helped any and all walks of lirrent, Charles Staley Training Systems.
