Question A friend had just added 2 tablespoons of white cocoa powder to her coffee this morning and then asked me if white cocoa powder has calories. I was aware there is a white cocoa powder, but I assume it is the same as brown cocoa powder only changed to a white color. I think see took on some calories by adding it. What is white cocoa powder and what are the nutritional stats?
Answer My understanding, from a source at Nestle, is that white cocoa is made using the cocoa butter part of cocoa (and sugar) but not the cocoa solids found in typical chocolate cocoa.
Of course, the powder has calories (unless it was artificially sweetened and flavored).
The nutrient content should be on the container the cocoa was in. I would have to see the contents to know exactly what was in the product she was using.
