Nutrition & Dieting - How can I reach my goal?

Expert: Laura Kraemer RN,BSN,CPN - 10/16/2009

Question
Hi, Laura. I'm Madison. I'm 16, 5'4, and I weigh around 180. My huge goal right now is to lose about 40 to 50 pounds, and I really would like to see a difference before Christmas Break. The problem is that I don't know how to get started! Can you help?

Answer
Dear Madison,
You really need a plan to follow so you won't go back to old habits. To lose weight, you must exercise everyday for about 30 minutes (walking is OK) and eat around 1500-1800 calories per day. Write down everything you eat and drink and look up the calorie count found in those foods and drinks. Keep a running total of the amount each day. If you stay around 1500 calories per day you can lose about 20 pounds by Christmas. Hope that helps, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
