About Susan Lee Ottevanger, Wellness Coach
Expertise
There is nothing on earth more important than your body, your health. With a little knowledge, there is nothing in life you have more power, more control over. If you are tired of feeling bad, stop eating badly. Most of what we eat most of: only a human mistakes this stuff for food. Distinguish real, satisfying food from the mere flavored packing material that keeps you hungry. If you`ve been on every diet twice and are going crazy, I can give you a path to Peace in the Kitchen.

Experience
In the late '80's my weight up and down reached a crisis. Arthritus in my back made it painfull to move. Balancing blood sugar had me eating more often. Eating more, moving less, miserable. My doctor smiled, said "just move more and eat less". This from a medical professional about to burst his buttons. Not a working plan. I knew I had to write my own, so I started researching what was new to put with what sorta worked for me in the past. Eat protein, eat carbs, just not at the same time. Never go around hungry, listen to your body, it can tell you what it needs.

Nutrition & Dieting - Am I eating Right??

Question
QUESTION: Hello,
I am wondering if you can give me some food ideas of what to be eating while I am training and losing weight.  I have heard a lot about food that makes you bloated...and would like to stay away from those (especially during bikini season).
What is your opinion on smoothies or protien drinks...like from Booster Juice.  I get one a day (sonic soy), and I am wondering if this is a good idea or if I am harming myself?
Also, I do not eat a ton of protien (usually because of time restraints limiting me from cooking meats), is this going to really harm me?
On a regular day I have:
Breakfast-Meal replacement bar or smoothie
Snack-fruit
Lunch-salad (just veggies and a little cheese, vinagerett dressing)
Snack-fruit or veggies
Dinner-sub (subway 6" turkey) or stir fry (usually shrimp)
How does this plan look?? There are days I eat more than this..and days I eat less depending on what I am doing that day.
Could you please let me know if what I am eating is good? And also could you give me some ideas of what else to eat if you don't think this is good?? THank you and sorry for the extended question!!

ANSWER: Hi Amy,

Too much protein, too much packaged junk.

Have a banana and some raw nuts, no bars, etc. You might as well just eat the wrapper.

Is that real cheese or processed cheese food?

I am afraid to ask what a snackfruit is, I will hope it is fresh raw something, or dried unsulphured and unsweetened.

QUESTION: Yes its real cheese, partly skim mozza cheese!
and the fruit is raw fruit (strawberries, watermelon, etc)
The bars are no good!? I eat those Nutrilite bars...are they that bad?
oh and is the too much protein for the smoothie?
Thanks

Answer
Whew! I had this vision of sugary fruit strips that came in 12 packs of plastic wrapped brite coulored yuk. Euw.

You make your own protein from amino acid that are in almost anything.

Avoid refined sugar, refined flour, processed, microwaved flavored packing material that nothing but a human would mistake for food.

Just go for real food, whole grains, fresh, raw produce.
