Nutrition & Dieting/My intestines swell up to an extent to burst
I am a 19 years old boy from India with height 5'8" and my weight is merely 48kg. I suffered from this intestinal infection and my intestines were just saved in time before they got burst out. I want to know if this problem of mine has got any sort of treatment because every time this occurs, doctors give me antibiotics and then after a week or two the same happens again with unbearable pain in my stomach region. also i would be very thankful if you could give me some advice on how to gain a proper weight as my BMI is very low.
Thanks and regards
I am unable to assist you with the intestinal condition as I am not a doctor. There are actually laws and regulations that prohibit those certified in fitness and nutrition from discussing medical issues. My apologies.
However I can give you advice on gaining weight from a nutritional stand point.
The way the body works is on an energy balance. If you intake more energy (calories) than you use, then it is stored (weight gain) and if you use more than you intake you lose weight.
Using this basis the thing to do is to increase your calories. The best way to do this is with complex carbohydrates. Stuff like whole wheat bread, brown rice, sweet potato, whole wheat pasta, etc. Make these part of every meal you eat. It will take some trial and error to find the right amount for you.
Here are some ideas for meals.
Eat oatmeal with your breakfast and include a fruit like a banana and some source of protein like eggs or yogurt.
2-3 hours later have a snack, perhaps 6 whole wheat crackers and low fat cheese
2-3 hours later a lunch. Maybe some natural deli turkey or a grilled chicken breast on 2 slices whole wheat bread. Finish it off with some tomato slices.
2-3 hours later another snack. an apple with 1 ounce nuts and a Tbl spoon natural peanut butter
2-3 hours later dinner. Chicken, fish or beef, about 6 ounces. A cup of brown rice. You can even cut up the meat or fish, put it in the rice and top it with some olive oil.
These are just some suggestions, it all depends on what you like to eat, and working that into your daily meal plan.
