Nutrition & Dieting/White carbs?

My friend recently came back from your country and he said it was lovely!
Thanks for answering my question. I hope you and yours are happy and healthy and enjoying the summer!
I realise this is not exactly low glycemic or low carb, but I have a lot less bloating and digestion issues when I eliminate 'white' carbs: sugar, white flour products, potatoes, and rice. As long as I don't eat these, I can pretty much eat all the other carbs and lose weight. My stomach doesn't stick out as much and I feel less flabby all over. Is this normal? I tried going gluten free for months it didn't help so I don't think gluten is the issue. I am starting to think I am 'carb sensitive? Also, after a week of eating this way last week, this weekend I felt very tired, sore muscles and joints, and poor circulation. Today I had a little whole grain bread and about 30 minutes later I felt better. Is this a low carb crash? Can you recommend any supplements that might also help?
Thanks again!

Hi Bud!

Many people have "bloating" issues when it comes to things like white flour, sugar , etc although I am quite surprised to hear it regarding potatoes which generally don't have the same effect.

It has to do with the way the products are processed. Gluten free is over rated, I"am not surprised that it didn't impact you much. Generally, the results people see from going "gluten free" are due to the fact that they've omitted processed, chemical laden foods from their diets.

IF you were "carb sensitive", your body would most likely react the same way to all complex carbs. That having been said, because your symptoms seem to be limited to a very specific genre of foods and exclude products containing gluten, I would seriously recommend that you go to your physician to be tested for food allergies.

Gluten free does not generally mean "carb free" in that beans, sweat potatoes, oatmeal and other gluten free products would contain complex carbs. If you are saying that you went an entire week end without  eating ANY complex carbs, your feelings of weakness, etc could attributed to a "carb crash."  That having been said, the sore muscles and joints along with poor circulation generally do not accompany going no carb for a few days and might be symptomatic of another underlying health issue. I would consider checking it out with your physician

This may sound simplistic but, why take supplements if you don't need them? As long as you are taking a good multi vitamin and B supplement and have no other digestive issues, my suggestion would be to eat the foods that make you feel good and avoid the ones which don't.

Keep me posted and let me know if you have any more questions
