Expert: Todd Bublitz, RCEP - 2/3/2007

Question
Hi.I am 33 years old.I am 6.1 feet tall. Can you tell me please how much i must weigh.Right now i weigh 90 kilos. Is that ok?

Answer
Joseph,

A way to generally asses your body weight is to check your Body Mass Index (BMI).  Here is a website that can help you:
http://nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmi-m.htm

Your current BMI puts you in the "overweight" category.  To get into the "normal weight" category, your weight should be 86 kg or less.

BMI is most accurate for those people who do not exercise on a regular basis.  BMI does not distinguish between muscle mass and fat mass, therefore, people with higher than average muscle mass will score high just like those with a lot of fat.  Weight lifters and body builders should not use BMI.

Best wishes.

Todd
