About John
Expertise
I am only too familiar with the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) formerly neurosis. I understand the various treatments available and medication therapies being used and other co-existent problems along side OCD. I can help you identify it in yourself and in others and where to get help.

Experience
I correctly identified it in a family member when it was still though to be a rare illness. I later identified it in my daughters classmate and some co-workers. One of which kept being fired because of it. I have watched the progression of the disease and the areas it creeps into and the effect of medications on it on a person. If you see it in a person especially a child you need to intervene quickly. I did and now the one child just graduated magna cum laude at a state university.

Publications
I would suggest a separate heading for this disorder under the heading of Obessive Compulsive Disorder.

Education/Credentials
BA in Psychology

Question
I have had OCD since 8 yrs old only been to Dr to talk about it at age 42yrs. not on meds still deciding that or maybe accuputure as not to keen on meds and side effects. is there a relation to digestive issues with OCD i.e bad breath and anxiety? i have had bad breath for a few yrs now (not an issue with teeth)...i know that there is an OCD that obbesses with thinking you have bad breath but i can say that this is for real as my ex husband and daughter have often commetned on it....it sometimes seems like it is coming from the bowels also  asked my Dr but not very inyerested.

Answer
Sandra, i am not familiar with the question you have.  I suggest if you have been diagnosed with OCD that you get on some meds for it.  Its nothing that can be handled by yourself.  Acupuncture is not going to help OCD anymore than speaking with a counselor is going to help it.  The only things that help a patient with OCD is the use of drug therapy and behavioral modification therapy.  You need to get in touch with your psychiatrist or if you do not have one let him start you on some meds that have proven value in treating OCD.
